RCBO tripping is mainly divided into three types: overload, short circuit, and earth leakage. Understanding the difference between a leakage trip and an overload trip is the first step to identifying the real problem without calling an electrician unnecessarily.

Step 1: Identify the Type of Tripping Fault

RCBO tripping is mainly divided into three types: overload, short circuit, and earth leakage. By observing how it trips and how it responds after resetting, you can accurately identify the cause.

  • Moisture or water ingress: This is the most common hidden cause of earth leakage. Damp conditions caused by rainy days or moisture at the switch position can trigger tripping.

  • Wiring damage: Hard-to-detect earth leakagecan be caused by wires chewed by rodents, cables inside the wall damaged by nails, or aging insulation tape on connections inside junction boxes.
