What is a Definite Purpose Contactor:
A definite purpose contactor is an electrically operated switch designed for specific, high-volume applications — most commonly in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) , refrigeration, and food service equipment.

A definite purpose contactor from one brand may look identical to another brand's model but have different LRA ratings. Always match by FLA, LRA, coil voltage, and poles number. When replacing a contactor, you cannot simply match its size or ampere rating to a different brand or type. DP contactors have lower locked rotor current limits compared to general-purpose contactors of the same FLA. To find a suitable replacement, always use the original manufacturer's part number.
