What is the difference between RCBO and RCCB?

2025-07-23

An RCBO (Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Overcurrent Protection)is an electrical safety device that combines the functions of RCD (Residual Current Device) which detects earth leakage currents and MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) which protects against overload and short circuit.

An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) is an electrical device that cuts off power upon detecting leakage current.

RCBO vs. RCCB:

Selecting the RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent) and RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) depends on safety requirements and circuit type.

Feature RCBO RCCB
Earth Leakage Protection Yes Yes
Overload Protection Yes No
Short Circuit Protection Yes No
Used Alone Yes Needs MCB
Rated Residual Operating Current 10mA-300mA 10mA-300mA

Conclusion:

RCBO is all-in-one integrated protection to enhance safety. It can directly replace MCB without extra device needed. RCCB is for main electrical panel protection which must be installed with MCB. Both RCBO and RCCB should test monthly - press 'T' button to check trip function to ensure safety.
